Old Navy Infringes on Oxes?

Yesterday while shopping at Old Navy at the Tyson's Corner Center, I noticed an odd screenprint on one of their t-shirts. The "vintage" style garment boasted a graphic that said something to the tune of: "ROCK ACTION PRESENTS: LIVE AT THE SOCIAL: OXES." I found this very interesting, since that is the name of a Baltimore band and a club in Chicago, if I'm not mistaken ... and most of the other prints were of a more obviously false nature.

The font itself they use is very close to Oxes promo material I've seen in the past. Was this authorized by the band? I have a feeling it wasn't, and I'm going to keep an eye out to see if the band or its label Monitor Records will get wind and take any action about this.

Jack White for Coca-Cola

Several months ago I read that Jack White was going to do some ads for Coca-Cola, but when quick results didn't occur I sort of forgot. This commercial seems to be the "real thing," complete with Michel Gondry "inspired" ideas. Let's all hope this is for the sake of art, Mr. White.

NPR Streams Lots of 9:30 Club Shows

Seems like every time I go to the annoyingly packed and uncomfortable 9:30 Club for a show, NPR is also streaming the performance online. Case in point is the recent Neko Case show, as well as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs that I have heard rumors that sounds better from the NPR site than it did if you attended the show. Click here and go ahead and check 'em all out for yourself.

Touch and Go Records Anniversary Party

Touch And Go Records 25th Anniversary Block Party hosted by the Hideout
on their 10th Anniversary

Founded in 1981 in Lansing, Michigan and Maumee, Ohio, Touch and Go soon
found itself at the center of the Detroit punk scene of the early 80s.
Early records by classic punk bands Negative Approach, The Meatmen, and
the Necros quickly put Touch and Go and the growing Detroit hardcore
scene into the national spotlight. It was an exciting time in Detroit,
but by the mid 80s, the bands were breaking up and it was time for a
change. In 1986, the label settled in its current home: Chicago. Now
in 2006, Touch and Go is throwing a party to commemorate 25 years of
record making and 20 years as a Chicago label.

This summer, Touch and Go Records will be celebrating our 25th year with
an anniversary blowout in Chicago. The Touch and Go Records 25th
Anniversary Block Party will be taking place in conjunction with The
Hideout, whose 10th anniversary is this year. We're throwing a bash,
and we're inviting a bunch of bands - past and present - from the T&G
roster to help us celebrate.

Here are a few of the 25 artists who will be performing at the
anniversary party:

Calexico
CocoRosie
Didjits (all original members)
Enon
Ted Leo + Pharmacists
Pinback
Scratch Acid (all original members)
Shellac
The Black Heart Procession

There will be 25 bands performing over 2.5 days. The party is taking
place on September 8, 9 and 10. All of the profits from the ticket
sales will be donated to three Chicago organizations: Tuesday's Child,
Literacy Works, and the Thomas Drummond Elementary School.
