Deerhoof have released a free MP3 EP on the Kill Rock Stars website, and it features covers of Beatles, My Bloody Valentine, Canned Heat, and Herman's Hermits. It seems to be all jammed into one big file, but click here for the isolated MBV cover track. [via Stereogum]

Pipettes Hysteria Fully Underway

So I guess I'll go ahead and bite on this whole Pipettes blogging hysteria -- seems they've got everything they need for buzz: three cute broads and a "Belle & Sebastian" type of sound. From the looks of their video, all they seem to do is sing ... and it seems they are breaking some serious play records on their MySpace site. But no matter, let's all sit back, relax, and watch these gals take the music world by storm.

The Fall Tour Falls Apart

I hate to link up to Pitchfork for news, since it doesn't need any additional promotion, but today's Fall news is just too great to pass up.

Click here for all the rumors and entertaining goodness that is the latest Fall tour breakdown, with details that outline the fact that their current opening band seems to be pretty fed up with Mark E. Smith. I must say its pretty fantastic that Smith is still at it like this so many years into his career, as much as I sympathize with these young folk who try and tolerate him on tour.

Be Kind Rewind w/ Michel Gondry, Jack Black, Daniel Clowes

Jack Black will star in "Be Kind Rewind." The film stars Black as a man who becomes accidentally magnetized while trying to sabotage a power plant. His magnetic field erases all the tapes in the video store where his best friend works. To save the store, the duo re-enact and re-film every movie that its single loyal customer, an elderly woman, rents. Michel Gondry (The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) will write and direct and Daniel Clowes (Ghost World, Art School Confidential) penned the script. [Source: Variety]
