Spiral Stairs on Pavement Reunion
“Scott Kannberg, aka Spiral Stairs, says that Pavement will reform in an interview for the new issue of Loud And Quiet, out this weekend (Jan 10th).
There’s been talk of Pavement reforming for quite some time but, in a Loud And Quiet exclusive interview with Scott Kannberg the guitarist told us, “I don’t see why not, you know, it could be a fun thing to do, go and play your favourite songs every night!”
Confirming that “everything’s fine now” amongst him and his ex-band members, Kannberg went on to say, “2009 would be our twenty-year anniversary too, so that’d be a good time to do it, but I think that’s too soon, it might have to be pushed back later.”
That news might come as a disappointment to those that have believed rumours of Pavement playing Coachella Festival this year but on that subject Kannberg mentioned that the band have not totally ruled out the Californian festival, providing their booking agent hears the right price. “Coachella keep asking our booking agent,” said the guitarist “but our booking agent’s pretty strong, you know, he’s waiting for the right number I think.”
In the feature that celebrates the US indie troupe, Kannberg also spoke about life in the band and how they might even release some unheard, rare material once their final album, ‘Terror Twilight’, receives the re-mastering treatment that all other Pavement albums have been given over the last few months.”

New live Stephen Malkmus Tunes

You Ain’t No Picasso has posted a recent Portland show from Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, containing 9 new songs. From what I’ve heard so far they’re pretty jammy and mellow, and it sounds like the normal Malkmus gold.
Ian Svenonius’ Soft Focus
Vice is busy cooking up a lot of great online shows, and my favorite so far is Ian Svenonius Soft Focus. Check out the first episode where he interviews the fantastic Will Oldham.

Sasha Baron Cohen on Fresh Air

I caught a bit of this excellent interview with Sasha Baron Cohen on NPR’s Fresh Air a week or two ago and I thought I’d post an MP3 of the entire show. I’m rooting for Mr. Cohen tonight at the Golden Globes, where the BORAT film is up for several awards, and in my opinion is more than deserves to win.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The Movie

Cartoon Network’s animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force will be the first original show of the channel’s late-night Adult Swim programming block to be turned into a feature film, Variety reported. The 86-minute film was written, produced and directed by co-creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis.
The film centers on the origins of Hunger Force characters Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake and an immortal piece of exercise equipment threatening the balance of galactic peace, the trade paper reported. “It was too big a story to do in 11 minutes,” Willis told Variety. “It’s based on our fear of exercise equipment.”
Maiellaro and Willis will be voicing several parts each, and several members of the TV cast will be reprising their roles. The film also features cameo voices provided by Bruce Campbell and Neil Peart of the band Rush. It is set for a March release date in 800 theaters.

George Liquor’s Goddamn Xmas Cartoon

Boing Boing’s Digital Emporium is selling a flash based John K cartoon on its site for just one buck. I’ve actually seen it before years ago and I definitely think its worth the small fee.
